Why does my Kitchenaid paddle leave grey dust in my food?!?

My paddle attachment on my kitchenaid mixer leaves grey residue in batters. Sometimes it will stop for a while. Other times I can actually rub off a grey residue. What's up with that?

It must be a defect. Contact the company and tell them the problem and they likely will send you a new one free of charge. In the meantime I wouldn't use the paddle attachment.
